Version 0.2.1 of the WP-SimplyHired API WordPress Plugin finalizes the framework & widget feature. This version also moves the plugin out of Alpha status and into Beta.
Changes in version 0.2.1 include:
- The widget now has SimplyHired attribution per their terms.
- SimplyHired click-tracking javascript added so you can get paid for clicks.
- Main stylesheet introduced.
- Minor Html and Admin code cleanup.
Future 0.2.x changes coming very soon:
- Add search form to widget
- Add “post a job” button to widget
- Add IP geo-location to widget
Coming in version 0.3 will be added shortcode functionality. This is a precursor to the automatic page generation for the job board section. Having the shortcode functionality will be useful at any rate, and you can start creating a foundation of niche job listing pages now.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, you can leave them below.

I’ve installed and activated the plugin. Went to admin, put in my ID, URL and picked what page it should be on. Browsed that page… got nothing.
Added a shortcode [joblist]
got this error: There was an error in your query! View API call XML
Added another shortcode [joblist query="tech+support" location="Los Angeles, CA"]
got this error: There was an error in your query! View API call XML
What gives…? What am I doing wrong
Tom – not sure what the problem is.
What I will need is the Url of the API call. Click on the link marked “View API call XML” and from the page that pops up, copy the link Url from the address bar and post it here.
Removed link for your privacy
Tom – I should have updated the setup instructions.
You need a broad O*NET setting in the Admin options. For here, I am using 15-10*. You can find yours by click here.
I wanted to drill down to 15-1099 which is Web Developers, but got the same error you just saw. SimplyHired does not classify that low. Went to 15-109*, same thing. And finally had to settle for 15-10*.
Some O*NET codes do get lower classifications at SimplyHired, for instance, construction trades such as roofers, plumbers, electricians, etc work with their respective codes.
And for what it is worth, I am using O*NET codes to return better results for your niche.
